The original photograph is shown above left and is from my set looking at vertical lines. I took some inspiration form Flavio Samelo when creating the high contrast version on the right hand side above.
I used a combination of tools in Photoshop too make the image and I wanted the high contrast effect to remind me and the viewer of sunny days when everything is limited to being highlight or shadow. The tools I used in Photoshop were the 'Posterisation' tool which limited the images to 3 colours. I followed this up with the 'Threshold' tool which took all tone and colour away from the image. I experimented with the placing of the threshold (the point the image goes from black to white) before deciding on a midway setting which kept the shapes of the bannisters.
The image is quite abstract but I think it is still identifiable as a set of bannisters even after the changes in Photoshop.
In my next work I want to create a set of images in the main part of the school building (The Mall) and experiment with the addition of colour and layers to abstract the subject matter and allow line and colour to work together.
