a selection of images with notes
This is a selection of photographs taken in a trip to Liverpool. I wanted to experiment with a set of different techniques - camera blur; light trails; different light sources at night; words in a picture and art galleries.
I am particularly pleased with the sequence of photos showing someone shadow while they did a back flip. The original pictures in clouded the acrobat but they had too much blur of the person. I chose to make a set of 12 like this and have been inspired by Edward Muybridge - a famous Victorian photograph who invented a special camera to freeze movement.
Of the other images I like the Tate sign against the black background as well as the red, white and blue light trail photo which is tilted and had the lens on manual with lots of blur. This has created a 3D feel to the picture as some of the light trails are blurred.
I also like the dark photographs taken in the Bluecoat gallery as the lighting is very atmospheric and gives a really mysterious look to the photos. There are 3 images below showing text on the image and these all work well for me both as interesting images and as a reminder of the trip.

Below is an animation that I made from a series of photographs I took on the motorway trip back from Liverpool. I was hoping to capture some of the lights and light trails seen when travelling on roads at night. This set is not successful as the photographs were not taken as a sequence but rather they were taken over a long journey at different times. If I get the chance I will create another set as a sequence or set of sequences and try this again. I am pleased with the colours of the light against the dark blue background. The colours make very striking images which are also quite abstract.
