This set of photographs have been made in response to the linear theme of vertical lines. The camera I used was a Nikon D-SLR D3200 with a standard 18-55mm zoom lens set around f8 with an ISO of 800.
The lens was set to manual focus and I used Live View and the viewfinder. All of the images were taken around a school building which is panelled in wood with wooden decking and steps. In 2 of these images I have used post-processing to alter the images. Image no.1 has been reversed using the Curves tool to create a brightly coloured reversal which is like a negative. I did this to highlight the wood grain and definitely see this as something I could use as a technique to make an abstract set of the wood panelling. This is partly inspired by the work of Falvio Samelo when working with the camera but I decided to retain the colour content as this acts to unify the images into as set. Samelo's work centres on architecture in Brazil and his use of repetition and contrast have definitely been in my mind when taking these photos.
Moving forward I want to look at these images and, if the weather's right, make new images. I then want to look at different post-processing techniques to increase the contrast and highlight the linear aspects of buildings more. This would then allow for me to look at reception and patterns in buildings as well as challenging viewpoints. I am also keen to investigate the idea of abstraction when making these images and taking the buildings into being difficult or impossible to identify due to the treatment of the images as well as viewpoint.
